New 1+1=3 website

We are very proud to announce the launch of the new 1+1=3 website. It has been created by Stephen Whitmarsh with amazing graphics by Camille Degardin. The site uses a new logic where the performances are broken down to a few permutations that separated thematically. The schematics constitute simplifications of how the performers interact according to live feedback patterns during performances.

Through this arrangement, you can also follow how we develop them from relatively simple set-ups to complex networks involving as many as five performers. This way, it is easier to understand the conceptual logic behind each performance as well as how the technology that we have developed works. It will allow both the audience and the performers to focus on the artistic aspect of the experience and we will all get more pleasure out of the experience.

1+1=3 is an interdisciplinary international collective working on the interface between performative art, music and neuroscience. Their research addresses the history of brainwave music, finding new ways of introducing contemporary neuroscience techniques and artistic concepts in a mixing of thoughts and ideas that originated in the late 60s with Alvin Lucier’s Music for Solo Performer. As part of their research, the group has developed the EEGsynth with which they can use live brain measurements to interface with analogue modular synthesizers, creating increasingly complex feedback loops between performer, audience and the sonic space.

The project is supported by Kulturbryggan.
